The Barry Table

It's about food, sure, but just like Barry tables across Chicago and around the country, this is also a place to share ideas, make plans for family reunions and boast about recent accomplishments, food-related or not.

The Lab Bench

My parents like to worry about if I eat enough. This is partially because they like to worry. But also partially because they know that I spent a majority of my day at the lab. The normal solution to this is China Wok, however this can get tiresome and expensive. Luckily the lab is full of engineers who enjoy finding solutions to problems.
The new solution? Cooking.

Steven brought his gas stove today and before all the grocery stores could close, we headed out to buy some a pot, a pan and most importantly some food. We decided to start with pasta, as it was easy and everyone liked it. However our international lab has a variety of diets which means the sauce couldn't have cheese, garlic or mushrooms. So we went with canned pure tomato paste and added only what we wanted. This meant green pepper and basil for everybody, but mushrooms and olives on the side.

Next time? Samosas.

Very impressive, and I like your solution to the various dietary preferences. Also that gas cooktop looks awesome.

I wonder how long it will be before Grumpy Unimaginative Dean smells your food and comes up with some objection.

Samosas? You're nuts.

How many cameras does it take to document a lab feast?

I count three. One camera phone, a digital camera seen in the glass reflection and finally the video camera on the tripod seen at the end of the table.

I bet your guys were laughing and laughing.
